Let’s create a world with less plastic and reduced food waste. Made from pure wood fibres, Inverform creates new opportunities, ticking all the boxes for sustainability and product performance by providing optimal formability for food applications. Inverform can significantly reduce the climate impact of your packaging solutions compared to using fossil-based or aluminium alternatives.
Applications and benefits
Inverform is a Solid Bleached Board (SBB) with a natural feel that has been specifically designed for ready-made meal packaging such as pressed and deep-drawn trays. It can also be used to make cutlery and more.
The adaptable board offers excellent formability and high stiffness, with a grammage advantage. The material is taint and odour neutral, which is optimal for packaging fresh and food-safe meals.
Inverform offers great visual appeal and can be coated, extruded or laminated. A thin protective extrusion coating on the smooth surface makes the paperboard resistant to moisture, grease and heat. Inverform trays are suitable for microwave, freezer and oven use.
Inverform trays have a substantially lower carbon footprint than regular plastic trays as Inverform is manufactured at the Holmen Iggesund Mill in Sweden from fresh wood fibres of known and traceable origin from sustainably managed forests. The Iggesund mill holds chain-of-custody certification and has an extremely low climate impact due to its energy self-sufficiency. In 2021, the mill received the EcoVadis leadership award which recognises the Iggesund mill as a global leader in sustainability that belongs to the top 1 percent of all companies assessed by EcoVadis.
The trays themselves provide all the advantages of plastic but are a more sustainable alternative with a lower carbon footprint. They conform well to existing packaging collection systems and offer better recyclability than fossil-based materials.
Inverform is an uncoated, multiply Solid Bleached Board made from chemical pulp. The board can be formed into trays of different shapes due to its combination of strength and flexibility.
The fibre composition varies for each layer in the construction of Inverform. The fibres are selected based on shape and length and are treated differently to tailor the paperboard construction for its intended use.
Inverform is available with several different barrier coatings – Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Polyethylene (PE), and Bio E, a barrier that is approved for industrial composting. Inverform trays comply with FDA and other food hygiene packaging regulations.
Please observe that these are general recommendations and adjustments might be necessary in each case.
