Foil and Film laminates

To attain a specific solution, paperboard is coated with plastics to combine the mechanical properties of the paperboard with the barrier and sealing properties of plastics or foil and film. Aluminium foil and metallised polyester film are laminated to the paperboard to provide a metallic effect or barrier properties. The choice of material is determined by the demands and use of the product.

Product description

Paperboard with aluminium foil laminated onto the reverse side is commonly used for packaging applications where sensitive products like ice cream and cereals are packed. The Alubarrier aluminium foil laminate makes the board practically impermeable to light, moisture, flavours and gases.

A polyethylene (PE) coating on top of the aluminium foil protects the foil from aggressive products, and makes the surface sealable. The printing side of the baseboard can be coated with PE, as with standard double-sided plastic coated board.

The surface tension level can be affected after delivery by conditions beyond our control. Regarding Adhesion, the scale is 1–6. (6 = the best possible adhesion on the concerned surface).

Holmen recommends a maximum 1 (one) year time limit, from delivery, for board in storage.

For paperboard with barriers or foil lamination the recommended storage time is no longer than 6 (six) months due to declining effect of any surface treatments.

The above recommendations are only valid if the product is stored in its original wrapping.
