Holmen Iggesund’s Invercote is the paperboard of choice if you’re after superior strength, highly accurate colour reproduction that resists fading, and a paperboard that can be bent, formed and cut into creative designs. Made of fresh wood fibres from sustainably managed forests and being fully recyclable, Invercote is a packaging material that can also contribute to lowering your brand’s carbon footprint.
Applications and benefits
Invercote is a strong, multi-layered solid bleached board (SBB) that is ideal for a range of end-user applications including the packaging of premium cosmetics, perfumes, chocolate, pharmaceuticals, electronics and many other products. It is also widely used for high-quality brochures and printing graphics. The fully coated surfaces of the Invercote family are designed to meet the highest demands of image reproduction in printing and surface treatment methods such as foil and film applications. Deep and narrow creases can be achieved as well as excellent deep and detailed embossing.
Invercote’s multiple layers of solid bleached fresh fibre give it superior strength and stiffness compared to board grades containing mechanical or recycled fibres, or single-ply bleached fresh fibreboards. High strength and stiffness are big advantages when designing and processing packages – as well as when putting them to use.
Sustainability advantages
Invercote is manufactured at the Holmen Iggesund Mill in Sweden from fresh wood fibres of known and traceable origin. By using fresh fibres in the chemical pulping process multiple benefits are achieved. Invercote paperboard has high strength, good brightness and is a hygienic product that is odour and taint neutral. All materials used in the making of Invercote are approved for food contact, making it highly suitable for the packaging of food and other sensitive products.
The Iggesund mill holds chain-of-custody certification and all of the fresh wood fibres used for Invercote comes from our own sustainably managed forests. Our facilities are largely self-sufficient in renewable thermal and electrical energy.
Technical details
The fibre composition varies for each layer in the construction of Invercote. The fibres are selected based on shape and length and are treated in different ways to tailor the paperboard construction to the intended use.
Multi-layered SBB optimises the surface fibre layers to form an excellent base for coating. The mineral coating is applied in two or three steps to meet the smoothness demands of printing and foiling applications. Invercote can be printed in several conventional methods and digital printing processes. The strength of Invercote, along with its consistent baseboard performance, supports full-speed printing and post-print production. Invercote can be glued with both emulsion adhesives (water-based) and hot melt adhesives.
