Solid Bleached Board

Invercote is a multi-layered product (solid bleached board, SBB), entirely based on fresh fibres. Specific fibre compositions are used for the various layers in the construction to optimise performance. The outer layers are dominated by hardwood fibres to promote smoothness and printability. The middle layer consists of softwood fibres for strength and flexibility. The coating composition is adjusted in different general directions for the product family to satisfy printability requirements.

Product description

Invercote Duo is made through back-to-back pasting of double coated Invercote. This standard version has identical printing surfaces on the front and back. Alternative versions are available with, for example, front-to-back pasting to achieve special properties or appearances. Due to its strength, toughness and thickness, Invercote Duo is especially suitable for different types of rigid, exclusive packs, the packaging of aroma and flavour sensitive products, and various display purposes.

Sheet grain direction

Grain results from the fact that fibers flowing onto the paper machine wire align themselves predominantly in the direction of their flow and the moving wire. The direction that is parallel to the flow of fibers on the wire is called the Machine Direction (MD). Direction perpendicular to the machine direction, or across the paper machine wire, is called the Cross Machine Direction (CD). Grain direction is called long-grain (or grain-long) when the longer sheet dimension is the same as, or parallel to, the machine direction. Shortgrain paperboard has its shorter sheet dimension parallel to machine direction. A diagram of each is below:
