Van Heertum Design wins the Red Dot Award 2016 with Invercote G
The award-winning packaging designed by Van Heertum Design contains luxurious delicacies from the Italian company San Mauro and is made of Invercote G 240 g/m2 from Iggesund Paperboard. The unique bipartite packaging beat out tough competition to bring home the Red Dot Award 2016: Communication Design.
San Mauro is well established as a high-quality brand of Italian olive oil. As part of its expansion into more luxury food products, the company asked the Dutch company Van Heertum Design (VHD) to develop a special packaging for its new products: artichokes in olive oil and an artichoke paste.
The award-winning solution is a packaging concept consisting of two separate parts that fit perfectly together. A glass jar that protects the contents is combined with a slide-on box made of Invercote G from Iggesund Paperboard that makes the end product truly stand out on the shelf. Rob Van Heertum, Strategy Director and Partner at Van Heertum Design, says this solution symbolises the symmetry between the actual ingredients whilst keeping aesthetics high and creating added value.
The Red Dot Award Communication Design is a globally renowned design competition, which this year saw entries from a total of 46 countries. Each entry was evaluated by a jury consisting of 26 industry experts. The winners will receive their awards on 4 November 2016 in Berlin, where the Red Dot Gala will take place in the Konzerthaus Berlin for the sixth time in succession.
