Tradition with modern packaging

In time for Christmas 2009 people throughout Sweden had an opportunity to vote for their favourite Blossa vintage mulled wine. The three winners – the 2005 vintage flavoured with cloudberry and armagnac, the 2006 vintage flavoured with lingonberries and juniper berries, and the 2008 vintage flavoured with blueberries – were released as a triple-pack. The packaging was created in partnership with converters Ekmans Jönköping.

“The idea was for an open style of packaging where the customer could touch the products,” says Peter Tegström of Ekmans Jönköping. “Behind the bottles the client wanted a material with a mirror effect.”

The main challenge was to make an open, three-part packaging where, for safety reasons, it was impossible to take one of the bottles out without damaging the packaging.

The idea and concept were developed by Graphic West DK, and Ekmans Jönköping created the design and finished construction. Junelito produced a surface in multiple shades of grey. The packaging comprises a base, an insert and a reflective board. Invercote Duo 450 g/m² was used for the base and insert, and Invercote Duo 450 g/m² with Metalprint 29 g/m² were both used for the reflective board.

“The quality of the paperboard was crucial to the client,” says Tegström. “It had to have a smooth surface and be the same on both sides, which was essential because both sides would be printed on.”

The packaging was produced in traditional offset print with spot UV varnish, and the insert and base were glued.
